California Lottery Computer Glitch Shuts Down Terminals
SACRAMENTO (AP) — It's an unlucky day for the California Lottery.
A computer glitch Monday shut down lottery terminals around the state, preventing gamblers from getting numbers for Powerball and other games. Only the scratch-off tickets were still being sold.
Lottery spokesman Alex Traverso says there was a loss of signal that prevented the terminals from connecting to the system that generates the numbers.
Traverso says about 350 out of 22,000 stores were affected, some for as long as five hours, but the problem was resolved by late Monday afternoon.
The cause of the problem is being investigated. Traverso says the contractor that provided the terminals may have to pay the lottery for the lost sales.
The Powerball is played across the state, including in Los Angeles.
