Calif. Assemblyman Hopes To Make Recycled Water Available For Use In Homes, Businesses
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —A California assemblyman hopes to make recycled water available for use in homes and businesses.
Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles) has introduced a bill calling for new building standards that would require developers to outfit new commercial and residential buildings with so-called "purple pipes" for recycled water.
"I envision a time where people who buy a new house, particularly in the desert parts of California, would have a hot pipe and a cold pipe and a recycled water pipe. If they want to run their garbage disposal or do their laundry with the recycled water then they're making an environmental choice and one that's also cheaper," he said.
The new building standards would only be required in cities that have access to recycled water or are planning to build water recycling plants.
