Cal State Fullerton Student Stabbed Near Campus
FULLERTON (CBSLA) — A Cal State Fullerton student was stabbed near campus on Wednesday afternoon shortly before 1 p.m., according to Fullerton police.
The injuries are not life threatening and the suspect is in custody.
The female, 20, was stabbed at the EvFree Church parking structure in the 2800 block of Brea Boulevard.
Police said the victim was stabbed two times while walking to her car and that the attack was random. She said she didn't know the attacker and said he didn't try to rob her.
The male suspect was found hiding in a nearby neighborhood.
Some students say they are worried about their safety.
"This is a student here. It's alarming. It really is," said a CSUF student. "This is where we park. It's scary because we're both here very late at night."
Students say they use the parking structure to take a shuttle bus to campus.
"In 15 minutes you get a couple buses that come and pick us up," said a CSUF student. "It was kind of a shock to see that happen here."
Detectives say one witness saw the attack and called 911.
Until the suspect was taken into custody the church next to the parking structure and a nearby elementary school were on lockdown.
"It worries me a little bit because this is also my church so what happened if he did that during church service," said a CSUF student.
"At this point in our investigation it appears that this was a random stabbing," said Jon Radus, Fullerton Police Department.
Police say the victim was stabbed in her hands and in her upper torso. They say Wednesday night she was in stable condition at a local hospital.
The parking structure will remain closed on Thursday.
