'Butt-Dial,' 'Hangry' And 'Manspreading' Added To Oxford Dictionaries

LONDON (CBSLA.com) — Hangry, awesomesauce and butthurt - these are among the latest batch of everyday phrases that have made their way from slang to actual entries in the Oxford Dictionaries.

The company announced on Thursday the newest additions to the English lexicon, which include:

  • awesomesauce: extremely good or excellent.
  • butthurt: where one is being too easily offended.
  • fat-shame: to mercilessly mock someone who is overweight
  • hangry: a state of anger induced by hunger.
  • manspreading: when men sit with one legs crossed and take up too much room on public transportation.
  • mic drop: the dramatic act of dropping a microphone as if one were terminating a dramatic statement.
  • pwnage: a term from the video gaming world that means to be completely dominated by an opponent
  • rando: "A person one does not know, especially one regarded as odd, suspicious, or engaging in socially inappropriate behaviour."
  • swatting: when someone makes a fake call to police hoping armed officers will arrive at someone else's home.
