3 Cities Develop Emergency El Niño Preparedness Website

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The cities of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena have come together to provide the public with information to stay ahead of the potentially record-setting El Niño event.

The cities have created a preparation website that will include a series of safety plans and precautions in order for residents to understand the risks of heavy rainfall.

Information regarding sandbag use and availability for each city, rainy weather safety tips, flood preparation and recovery and animal preparedness will also be provided on the website.

The Twitter handle "@VerdugoAlert" has also been created to share emergency information as it becomes available on social media platforms.

Residents can also sign up for emergency alerts from city's El Niño Early Warning System.

In October, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center announced temperature and precipitation outlooks for the winter months of December through February.

Forecasters say there is strong evidence that California may receive twice its regular rainfall this winter, which has prompted many residents living in the foothills to begin preparations.

El Niño developed in March and is likely to peak during the late fall or early winter months.

Wet weather is expected to gradually weaken through the spring months of 2016.
