Firefighters Keep Watch For Flare-Ups In Burbank

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — About 50 firefighters remained on the scene of a three-alarm brush fire that scorched about 10 acres in Burbank, close to million-dollar homes.

The non-injury fire prompted mandatory evacuations and triggered road closures Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters remained on the scene to guard against flare-ups.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m. Wednesday near the 1000 block of Hamlin Place. About 150 firefighters battled the blaze, which was 80 percent contained as of 8 p.m., Burbank Fire Battalion Chief Ron Barone said.

Evacuation orders were lifted after 8:30 p.m., and roads were reopened by 10:30 p.m.

Barone credited ground-based firefighters' structure-protection efforts and water drops by helicopters from the Los Angeles city and county fire departments with stopping the blaze before any homes were burned.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Barone said.
