Fire Crews Save Colton Neighborhood From 50-Acre Brush Fire

COLTON (CBSLA.com) – Fire crews have contained a 50-acre brush fire that appeared to be threatening homes in Colton Saturday afternoon.

The blaze broke west of Rosedale Avenue and Maryknoll Drive sometime before 1:15 p.m., according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

The flames raced through a hillside.

It burned right above Jeff Mascolina's street. He said his neighborhood was saved because of the firefighters who worked in nearly 110 degree heat.

"They're up there lining up the lines and making sure that everything is great," said Mascolina.

Along with ground crews, the SBCFD was also using water-dropping helicopters to battle the flames.

The cause of the fire was not known.
