Bruin Statue On UCLA's Campus Vandalized In Anticipation Of Rivalry Game

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — College football Rivalry Week has touched down in Los Angeles, and USC fans appear to have been the first to let everyone know it this year.

USC supporters apparently got to UCLA's Bruin Bear statue, in the heart of UCLA's campus, and took an early strike through vandalism.

BruinSportsReport.com shared an image on Twitter on Thursday, showing the left side of the Bruin statue, with red spray paint that reads "SC Runs LA".

The battle for the victory bell, which will take place at the Rose Bowl this year, is set to take place Nov. 22.

The Trojans football team (7-3, 6-2 Pac-12), meanwhile, saw action on their home field at the Coliseum, defeating the Cal Golden Bears 38-30, on Thursday night.

Supporters and students generally take the threat of vandalism rather sincerely, taking measures to prevent such acts through boxing, wrapping tape, or even personal guarding.

A large protective box has since been erected around the Bruin statue on UCLA's campus, while USC's Tommy Trojan has been wrapped up in tape.

UCLA (8-2, 5-2) most recently defeating Washington 44-30 on Nov. 8.
