Broncos Divisional Playoff Tickets Selling Below Regular Season Average

This weekend, the San Diego Chargers travel to Denver to take on the Broncos for a third time this season. The two AFC West rivals split the regular season series, and will duke it out in a rubber match for a trip to the AFC Championship Game.

The last time these two teams played, the Chargers were able to beat the Broncos 27-20. Controlling the clock and executing a flawless game plan crafted by head coach Mike McCoy and offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, the Chargers seemed to discover the formula necessary to beat Peyton Manning in a season-saving victory. After a mild upset over the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wildcard round of the playoffs, San Diego appears to be a legitimate threat to Denver's stellar season. Once again, it is win or go home for the Chargers. However, the same ultimatum applies to Peyton Manning and the Broncos as well this time around. They should be well rested after a first-round bye, and have every intention to give their fans a reason to purchase Super Bowl tickets later this month.

When we get to see division opponents face off in the playoffs after playing each other twice during the regular season, it lends an added level of drama and excitement to the game. This matchup is no different, as Broncos playoff tickets for this game are the highest in the AFC at an average of $310 dollars. Despite this AFC high price designation, tickets for this week's game are actually still priced below the Broncos $325 dollar regular season home average, and 22% below the price for their Divisional Round game against the eventual Super Bowl champion Ravens last year. Prices are also trending downward, having fallen 47% in the past week. However, tickets for this game still has a 23% premium to when these two teams met at Mile High during the regular season.

It is entirely possible that Denver fans are overlooking this game, instead preferring to save money in anticipation of attending the AFC Championship game next weekend. Denver has home field throughout, and would play host to either the Patriots or Colts next week with a win on Sunday. Given that San Diego required perfection to beat Denver the first time around, perhaps Broncos fans think that the Chargers cannot possibly catch lightning in a bottle twice. One thing is for certain though. Both teams will give it their all, knowing full well that anything can happen on any given Sunday and this one is for a trip to the AFC Championship game.
