Broken Water Main Forces Closure Of Sherman Oaks Intersection

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Crews on Monday shut down an 8-inch water main that broke and poured water into streets, forcing the closure of a busy intersection and evacuations of apartments nearby because of significant road buckling.

Water flowing into streets forced authorities to close the intersection of Woodman Avenue at Moorpark in Sherman Oaks, and while no properties were damaged, the Los Angeles Fire Department reports 800-900 apartment units in the area will be without water for an unknown amount of time.

Woodman is expected to remain closed overnight Monday.

The Fire Department said firefighters quickly cleared storm drains in the area to allow water to run off more quickly, and the water flow was shut off in about 35 minutes.
