Broken Toilets Cause Honolulu-Bound Jet To Divert To LAX

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities said broken toilets forced a Honolulu-bound jetliner to divert to Los Angeles International Airport.

An American Airlines spokeswoman said Flight 005 took off from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Sunday morning on a scheduled 8 1/2 -hour nonstop flight to Hawaii.

It landed at LAX at about noon local time after three of the six toilets on the Boeing 767-300 malfunctioned.

Alexis Aran Coello said the plane departed from Los Angeles about 2 ½ hours later after maintenance crews fixed the lavatories.

She didn't know whether the 212 passengers and 10 crew members on the flight deplaned or stayed onboard during the wait in Los Angeles.
