Bridge Collapses In Corona, Injuring 9 Workers
CORONA (CBSLA.com) — Nine workers were injured Friday night when a bridge collapsed in a construction zone in Corona.
The collapse happened around 11 p.m. at E Grand Boulevard and the 91 Freeway, when a bridge deck was being lowered into place.
A malfunction in the jacking operation caused the bridge deck to suddenly dropp 16 inches, striking wooden support beams, which hit the workers.
Ten workers were transported to the hospital -- nine with injuries. Three of those injuries are critical, authorities said on Saturday. One person was released from the hospital.
Construction work on the bridge was halted Saturday morning.
E Grand Boulevard will remain closed to motorists until Monday.
