Boy, 14, Accidentally Shot Himself, LA County Officials Say

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a 14-year-old boy found dead in an alley with a gunshot to his head had been handling a loaded handgun and accidentally shot himself.

Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez says the shooting was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday just off Cesar Chavez Avenue in East Los Angeles.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are looking into how the teen got possession of the handgun.

His name was not released.
