UPLAND (CBSLA.com) — A 12-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle in front of his home Friday while riding a motorized scooter in the street.

Roman Martinez was transported to Loma Linda Medical Center for treatment of injuries, where he was pronounced dead, according to California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene.

According to police, the child was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

Family members told officers the child received the scooter as a gift for Christmas.
