VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Homicide investigators Friday were investigating the stabbing death of a 1-year-old boy in Ventura.

Police received a call around 1:45 a.m. from a man stating a child was killed at a residence in the 400 block of Crocker Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the 1-year-old boy, Jacob Navarrete, on his father's bed suffering from a stab wound to the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The man caller, who happened to be the father of the child, was also suffering from stab wounds to the upper torso," Ventura Police Dept. Cmdr. Darin Schindler said.

He was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

According to officials, the boy's parents were separated, and he was visiting his father, who lived in the home with about eight to 10 other people.

Police say the man, Adrian Navarrete-Gonzalez, 29, was responsible for the victim's death.
