Both Sides Of 10 Freeway Closed In Upland After CHP Officer Shoots Allegedly Armed Man

UPLAND (CBSLA) — Both sides of the 10 Freeway in Upland remained closed late Friday night after officers shot a man who they said was armed with a knife.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched to the eastbound 10 Freeway at San Antonio Street at about 2:46 p.m. for reports of an adult male causing harm to himself while seated in the passenger side of a vehicle on the 10 Freeway between Mountain and Euclid avenues.

When officers arrived, they found the man had exited the vehicle and had stopped traffic by standing within the center of the median. Police said the man then "rapidly approaching the officer in an aggressive manner, with the knife in his hand."

According to CHP, the officer gave several verbal commands for the man to drop the knife before opening fire and striking the man who was then taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information was asked to call the department at 909-387-3589.
