Boston Beats Out Los Angeles Bid To Host 2024 Summer Olympic Games

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The United States Olympic Committee passed over the City of Angels Thursday and endorsed Boston's bid to host the 2024 Summer Games.

At the USOC's meeting in Denver Thursday, the committee chose Boston, despite Los Angeles' existing infrastructure for hosting the Summer Games and having hosted the event twice before.

Los Angeles had pushed for the games aggressively with plans for $40 billion in improvements already underway, compared to Boston's $4.5 billion proposal.

"I want to congratulate the City of Boston and hope the Games will be back on American soil in 2024," Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement.

Boston beat out bids from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington D.C.
