Body found nearly a week after car plunges off steep road in Malibu

Investigation continues into mysterious crash off Malibu cliff; two passengers still missing

Nearly a week after a car plunged over the side of a steep road in Malibu, authorities say they've found a body.

Early Saturday morning, officers requested the Ventura County Search and Rescue teams to conduct an extensive search of the area near Deer Creek Road in unincorporated Ventura County, where a car plummeted 1,000 feet off the side of the road on Dec. 1., according to the California Highway Patrol.

"During the search, VCSAR located a deceased body in the area under thick foliage, which is believed to be one of the missing occupants," the CHP statement said.

They are still searching for a second missing person, one of three people that were inside the car at the time of the crash. The third person was picked up from the spot the night the crash occurred, police said.

The deceased person has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin, CHP said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
