Body Found At Burned Home In Chino After Standoff

CHINO (AP) — Authorities say a body found in a burned home in Chino is the gunman who fired on a San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy trying to evict him.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the remains were found Thursday morning. There's no word yet on the man's identity or the cause of death.

Authorities say the man holed up in the home on Wednesday morning after firing on a deputy who had arrived to serve the eviction notice. The deputy wasn't hit.

The man also fired on SWAT officers, who replied with tear gas. The house caught fire minutes later.

The Press-Enterprise says the man had told an acquaintance on Tuesday that he planned to commit suicide and burn his home.
