Blocked Storm Drain Blamed For Flooding In Playa Del Rey

PLAYA DEL REY (CBSLA) — Neighbors in Playa del Rey were drying out a bit Monday after a blocked storm drain backed up and pushed rising rainwater into streets.

Crews were on the scene late Monday, but not before water as much as 2 feet deep flowed into streets, up to homes and into some cars.

Residents in the area say clogged storm drains have caused similar problems in the area in the past.

The Los Angeles Department of Public Works said a combination of a high tide and rain caused the drains to be overwhelmed temporarily.

More rain, some heavy, is expected through Tuesday across all of Southern California.
