1 Arrested, 1 Killed In Fontana Big Rig Hit-And-Run

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A truck driver was arrested Thursday in a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a big rig and two vehicles in San Bernardino County.

The accident happened around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Etiwanda and San Bernardino avenues in Fontana, the California Highway Patrol said.

"Looks to be that [the big rig] ran the red light and collided with two vehicles that were in the intersection going westbound on San Bernardino," Sgt. Eric Lee of the CHP said.

The male driver of one of the sedans was pronounced dead at the scene and two other people were injured.

"The big rig driver continued northbound from the scene, where he abandoned the big rig," Lee said.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and K-9 units searched a nearby field and recycling plant, but were unable to locate the driver.

The man, whose name was not released, was later apprehended at his home.
