Big Rig Crashes Into South LA Burger Joint; 2 Injured

SOUTH LA (CBSLA.com) — At least two people were hospitalized after a big rig crashed into a Tom's Jr. Burger restaurant in South LA early Saturday morning, investigators said.

The big rig was traveling on Florence Ave. at around 3 a.m. when it collided with a sedan traveling south on Hoover Street. It wasn't immediately clear who had the right-of-way.

The vehicles collided and the truck veered off the road and into the restaurant's storefront.

No workers were inside the restaurant at the time.

The truck driver was stuck in the wreckage and needed to be extricated by firefighters. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car was also taken to a hospital with injuries.

The truck is owned by the US Postal Service, KCAL9's Joy Benedict reported.

The restaurant was supposed to open at 6 a.m., but remained closed Sunday morning.

Authorities closed portions of Hoover Street and Florence Ave. on Saturday morning as they worked to clear the wreckage.
