Bicyclist Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Fountain Valley

FOUNTAIN VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A bicyclist was killed overnight in Fountain Valley Wednesday, police said.

The crash happened at Ellis and Brookhurst just before 1 a.m.

Binh Ngo, 41, of Fountain Valley, was riding a brand new mountain bike in the outside lane when the car clipped him from behind. The impact forced the bicyclist into a parked car owned by Israel Arroyo's car.

"I just came out, I checked around and saw a dent and blood and thought it must have been a bad hit," Arroyo said.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Police are reviewing images from a security camera in the area, and say they are looking for an older red Ford Mustang with significant front-end damage.

Late afternoon Wednesday, police announced they had arrested the driver who fled the scene.

Meanwhile, CBS 2's Michele Gile spoke to Ngo's grieving brother who said his sibling died what he loved doing.

"He loves riding to the beach," his brother, Kenny said, "it was his source of happiness."

His brother was also that source for his family.

"My brother means so much to our family, especially to our mom. He's one of the sources of her happiness. Right before he died, he told her how much he loves her."

His family lit candles at the spot where the accident happened. It is also traditional for them to leave an offering. They left Gatorade, Twinkies and Cheetos -- representing some of Ngo's favorite things -- at the scene, as well.
