Better Than Coffee? Bracelet Offers Caffeine Fix Without Jitters, Yellow Teeth

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — If your coffee habit is breaking the bank or upsetting your stomach, there's a new way to get your caffeine fix: Wear it.

Joule is the first bracelet that administers caffeine directly into your skin, not in a cup, but on a strip in a bracelet that inventor Adam Paulin says is then absorbed into the bloodstream.

"With these patches that we use within the bracelet, you can get a slow and steady administration of caffeine over four hours," says Paulin, who added the patch eliminates jitters and indigestion, not to mention bad breath and stained teeth.

The amount of caffeine in one Joule patch is equivalent to a medium cup of coffee.

So let's do the math: The Joule bracelet and 30 patches costs $29, so if you bought a $3 latte once a day, you'd save $60 a month.

But despite the apparent savings, at least one coffee lover says she wouldn't switch.

"I like to hold my warm cup of coffee," says Lake Balboa resident Stacy. "It's a ritual. It's not just the caffeine intake. It's also the ritual of getting the coffee, having the coffee, sipping it over a long period of time."

The Joule bracelet and caffeine patches have been approved by the FDA and should be available by summer.
