Next time you feel like climbing up a wall in the metaphorical sense, don't give in. Instead, try this stunt in a literal way by heading to a place where these kind of antics are not only anticipated, but expected. Or, just go for the fun and athleticism of it all as indoor rock climbing has become a big time distraction in the City of Angels. What a great name for a place where rock climbing in a very cool gym is the main attraction. Climbing instruction is on the schedule at LA Boulders, as are introductory weekend instructions and classes meant just for kids. At this alluring facility, said to be the biggest in the Southland, expect 18 foot walls, 11,500 square feet of climbing terrain and 200 problematic boulders to overcome. Also note that one of the climbs takes you straight to a yoga studio for some well-earning stretching. And don't despair if you don't meet your goal the first time out because you'll be welcomed back for another try just as soon as you are able.

All levels of rock climbers are accommodated in the West Los Angeles outpost where a giant boulder area takes center stage alongside 10,000 square feet of climbing wall. This is the ideal place to start when aiming to do your rock climbing outdoors is the ultimate goal. As an example of what you'll find at Rockreation Los Angeles, one section of the space, called Toprope Heaven, features an arched area under which routes measuring 65 feet are ready for you to attempt and eventually conquer.

If you aren't sure about what you want to do, simply buy a day pass and rent a harness, shoe and chalk and get out there and explore. Arcardia Rock Climbing - known as the ARC - is a stellar outpost for learning the ropes and everything else this facility has to offer. Situated just east of Pasadena, this fun-filled and very colorful facility takes on beginners with ease and challenges the more accomplished with a number of more rigorous climbs. Certain programs mean protracted stays, like the periodic Rock Inn overnights where everyone has a chance to perfect skills while mingling with like minded-athletes who rock.
