Bear Sightings Put Santa Clarita Valley Residents On Alert

STEVENSON RANCH (CBSLA.com) – Officials Tuesday night issued a warning to residents regarding a bear who is wandering around a Santa Clarita Valley neighborhood.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said that that the "Stevenson Ranch bear is still making his presence known in and about neighborhoods."

CBS2 obtained video from a homeowner that shows the bear strolling around a driveway. The bear wasn't even scared off by the motion sensor light.

The Santa Clarita Valley often gets bear sightings. LASD advises residents to use bear-proof trash, not to leave any scented products outside, avoid bird feeders, keep BBQ grills lean.

Authorities say if you see a bear, do not approach, but instead, slowly back away and give it plenty of room.

If a bear causes damage to your home, contact the California Department of Fish and Wildlife at 562-598-1032.
