Knife-Wielding Man Arrested Following Standoff With SWAT In Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — Police Tuesday arrested an armed man who barricaded himself inside of an apartment for several hours in Highland Park.

The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. Monday in the area of York Boulevard between Ave 52 and Ave 54, according to police.

Neighbors reported the man threatened to kill his stepfather and acted erratically in the street.

Upon their arrival, authorities evacuated residents living in the area and closed off four blocks.

SWAT teams were called to assist after the man barricaded himself inside of an apartment for several hours.

Authorities deployed tear gas and fired a Taser at the suspect, which ultimately led to his arrest.

CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported the suspect has an extensive rap sheet for committing armed robberies and drug offenses.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
