Shooting behind Baldwin Park Target store leaves two hospitalized

Two people were hospitalized after a shooting behind a Target store in Baldwin Park late Sunday night, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Crews were called to the area behind the store, located in the 3100 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard near the 10 Freeway, at around 98:20 p.m. after learning of the shooting, firefighters told CBS LA.

Upon arrival, they found two victims, a male and a female, who required hospitalization. Baldwin Park police later said that they were both in critical condition as of Monday morning.

"Officers determined the suspect and victims knew each other and were able to locate the suspect's vehicle in the City of Covina," a Baldwin Park police news release said. "Officers conducted a traffic stop at Hollenbeck Ave. and Nubia Street, and as they attempted to make contact with the suspect, they discovered he had suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was deceased."

On Tuesday, the deceased suspect was identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as 31-year-old Fred Garcia.

Neither of the victims has been publicly identified.

SkyCal flew over the spot of the shooting, where two vehicles, a white van and a black pickup truck, both had doors ajar as police surveyed the area where there were multiple evidence markers on the parking lot asphalt. The back of the store was completely blocked off by police tape as the investigation got underway.

As their investigation continues, detectives asked anyone who may know more to contact them at (626) 960-1955.
