Bail Set At $5 Million For Escondido Man Accused Of Sex Crimes Against Children

RIVERSIDE COUNTY (CBSLA.com) — Bail has been set at $5 million for a man whom authorities say is accused of "numerous counts of felony sex crimes against several children."

Richard Sears, 47, of Escondido was arrested in his home where a search warrant was served, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The department said on Aug. 6 detectives with the Perris Station received information concerning allegations of child molestation.

The incidents, according to deputies, dated back several years ago in an unincorporated area of Perris and Escondido.

An investigation was subsequently launched into the allegations and, according to deputies, led them to the home where Sears was taken into custody.

Sears was booked into the Southwest Detention Center.

Authorities said their investigation is ongoing and asked for the public's help in providing additional information.

Those with more information were asked to call Investigator Tom Salisbury at the Perris Police Department at (951) 210-1000 or Detective Jeff Udvarhelyl with the Escondido Police Department at (760) 802-7292.
