Sheriff: Gunman, Teenage Boy He Targeted Shot To Death In Azusa

AZUSA (CBSLA) — A teenage boy and the man who investigators say targeted him were killed in a shooting late Tuesday that wounded a third male near Azusa Pacific University.

Los Angeles County fire crews responded to the 500 block of Rockvale Ave. around 10:45 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Two unidentified people were found at the location, and a third gunshot victim was located in the 700 block of 5th St.

The victims were found blocks from Azusa Pacific University and Charles H. Lee Elementary School.

Investigators say the boy, believed to be as young as 16 years old, was the target of the shooting. They described the suspects as two Hispanic males who fired several rounds at the boy, hitting him at least once in the upper torso.

As the suspects ran away from the scene, they were hit by gunfire by another unknown shooter, according to detectives. One of the suspects was killed in that second round of gunfire, while the second suspect was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Two firearms were recovered at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
