Investigation Underway Into Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting In Anaheim

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — An investigation was underway Monday after Anaheim police officers fatally shot a knife-wielding woman during a standoff at her apartment in Orange County.

Officials responded to a report of a stabbing around 5:30 p.m. Sunday at a laundromat in the 900 block of S. Euclid St.

A woman suspected of stabbing another woman during an unprovoked attack at the business then fled to her nearby apartment on Roberts Street.

When officers arrived at the residence, she refused to leave and a standoff ensued.

She eventually exited carrying two knives and charged at officers, according to police.

At that time, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Concerned family members of 43-year-old Monique Jenee Deckard had contacted authorities around 3:30 p.m. to report unusual behavior after a friend said she was attempting to buy a firearm.

Police responded to her apartment but were unable to locate her until the alleged stabbing later took place.

Deckard was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities say an investigation was underway, including a review of the video taken from the officers' body cameras.

The woman who was stabbed suffered wounds to her torso and back that were non-life threatening.

No officers were injured in the incident.
