Authorities Identify 18-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed Near Coachella Festival

COACHELLA (CBSLA.com) — An 18-year-old Inland Empire woman, killed Friday night while crossing a street near the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, was publicly identified Sunday.

Michala Freeland, 18, of Highland, was crossing Avenue 52 at 8:13 p.m. Friday, when an eastbound Jeep Grand Cherokee hit her east of Monroe Street, police said.

Freeland was taken to Eisenhower Medical Center where she died at 9:27 p.m., according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

Freeland was attending the music festival, police said.

The driver of the car has been cooperative with the investigation, police also said.
