Authorities Hunt For Man Accused Of Shooting, Wounding West Covina Officer

WEST COVINA (AP) — The hunt continues for man suspected of shooting and wounding a West Covina police officer.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says Jose Luis Chavez is wanted on suspicion of attempted murder of an on-duty officer and is considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators believe the 47-year-old fired several rounds after the officer tried to detain him late Friday.

The officer was shot in the chest and was taken to a hospital. He is expected to survive.

Authorities say the officer fired back but they don't know if Chavez was hit.

On Sunday, authorities revealed te officer is out of the hospital and recovering at home.
