Replica Hand Grenade Prompts Evacuations At Ontario International Airport

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of passengers were evacuated on Wednesday after an item located in a carry-on bag raised concern at a screening checkpoint at Ontario International Airport.

Shortly before 5:30 a.m., Transportation Security Administration agents located an item that resembled a hand grenade located within a carry-on bag, according to airport police.

Officers responded to Terminal 4 and then notified the Ontario Fire Department and bomb squad.

Airport police subsequently ordered for evacuation of the terminal.

The bag was removed from the terminal to a different location for further investigation, officials explained.

Authorities determined the item appeared to be a "gag gift" replica hand grenade.

No arrests were made.

Around 6:30 a.m., evacuation orders were lifted and passengers were allowed back inside of the terminal.

No planes or flights were affected by the incident.
