Athletes Gather In Santa Monica For Boston Marathon Memorial Run

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — About 50 local runners Monday gathered for an early morning jog to honor those injured in last year's Boston Marathon bombings.

Nike's "#StrongerEveryRun" program will donate $1 for every mile tracked to the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), a nonprofit dedicated to helping those with physical challenges get involved in sports.

CAF has directly supported marathon survivors by giving out grants for equipment such as handcycles, carbon fiber running feet and mentor placement.

The run began at 6:30 a.m. at the Santa Monica Pier.

For those who could not, anyone can pledge miles ran through the Nike+Running App.

Up to $150,000 in combined efforts will go directly to support Boston Marathon survivors and others in the area.
