At Least 2 Dead, 4 Critical In Traffic Accident In Sunland Area
SUNLAND (CBSLA.com) — At least two people have been killed and four others critically injured in a three-car traffic accident in Sunland.
Officials said two other people were in fair condition.
The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 9000 block of West La Tuna Canyon Road in the area of Shadow Hills.
Authorities said two other people had to be extricated from their vehicles.
Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said two of the cars collided head-on.
One vehicle, he said, was driven by a 19-year-old man. Some of the other victims are also "early teens."
People in all three cars sustained serious injuries, Mundel reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Reporting from the scene, CBS2's Randy Paige said there were a total of eight victims in the three vehicles.
Two men were declared dead at the scene and four people were in critical condition, two of them teens and two adults.
One man who said he was nearly involved in the crash said it looked like an explosion.
"I saw a lot of smoke," he said. "I saw the cars flying. I knew it was a head-on collision."
