Arson Suspected In High School Baseball Dugout Blaze

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating a fire they suspect could have been deliberately set that destroyed a baseball dugout at a high school in Whittier.

KCAL9's Brittney Hopper reports that the blaze, which happened early Thursday morning, caused $50,000 in damage to a locker room, a coach's office and the dugout alongside the baseball diamond at La Serna High School.

Officials said the incident was the second fire this week on school grounds.

Hopper spoke with a parent of one of the players who said that everyone is very upset and the situation is "a shame."

Anyone with information on the crime was asked to call Whittier police at (562) 567-9241.
