Arson Investigation Underway At 3 Separate Carports In Rosemead

ROSEMEAD (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters Tuesday extinguished three separate carport fires that erupted within blocks of each other in Rosemead.

The fires broke out just before 3:30 a.m. in the 7700 block of East Hellman Ave, the 3000 block of Jackson Ave, and the 2500 block of North Del Mar Ave, according to Los Angeles County firefighters.

CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported a total of 15 vehicles were torched within a one mile radius.

Flames managed to spread to homes, causing minor to moderate damage to the structures, firefighters said.

Authorities are treating the fires as suspicious in nature. Arson investigators have responded to the scene.

The total damage is estimated to be at $275,000.

Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated and have since returned home.

The cause of the fires remain under investigation.
