Arrest Made In Connection With Fatal Fire At Recording Studio In LA

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) – An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal fire at a recording studio in Universal City, CBS Los Angeles has learned.

An LAPD source identified the suspect as Efrem Demery, 28, of Los Angeles. He has been booked for murder.

Police say Demery is responsible for the structure fire at Top Notch Recordings where officials say there are 13 studios that house independent producers and artists.

LA Fire estimates about a dozen people were inside working when fire broke out.

The fire at the one-story commercial building in the 3700 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard unfolded early Saturday morning. Two people were found dead at the scene. They were described as a male and female.

One of the victims was identified as 28-year-old Devon Carter.

Two others are in grave condition at local hospitals.

Police will hold a news conference Monday afternoon to hopefully give more information -- a possible cause of the fire and an update on the two patients in the hospital.
