Arrest Made In Connection With Triple-Fatal Arson Fire In South El Monte

SOUTH EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they have made an arrest in connection with a triple-fatal arson fire at a South El Monte tire shop.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that Roberto Fuentes, 19, of Baldwin Park was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder. His bail has been set at $1 million.

The statement said significant video surveillance led detectives to identity the suspect vehicle, described as a gold 2002 Nissan Altima, which then led authorities to Fuente.

Deputies say three people were killed Saturday in a suspected arson fire in the 1200 block of Santa Anita Avenue.

Two of the victims were identified as 18-year-old Carlos Jimenez of El Monte and Destiny Aguirre, 18, of Azusa.The third victim has not yet been identified.

Authorities said their investigation is ongoing.
