Man Detained In Theft Of 55 Laptops From UCLA Building

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) —UCLA campus police Wednesday planned to release the name of man detained in theft of 55 Apple laptops from a campus building.

The unidentified suspect was taken into custody Tuesday.

The theft of the computers valued at $33,000 occurred overnight Saturday at the Charles E. Young Research Library and was captured on surveillance video, authorities said.

According to authorities, the suspect smashed a ground-level window before breaking a window to the storage room where the laptops were kept and loaned to library patrons.

It was reported Monday that police believed the culprit was similar in appearance to a man caught on camera stealing two laptops from the Ackerman Student Union in September.

The case remains under investigation.
