Arrest Made In Connection With Newport Beach Hit-And-Run That Injured Girl, 14

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run in Newport Beach that left a 14-year-old girl critically injured.

The accident happened just after 9 p.m. Tuesday on E. Bay near Anade avenues.

The injured teen was on a beach cruiser bicycle riding with other bicyclists.

The girl wasn't wearing a helmet when she was struck by a car that had been heading west.

Newport Beach police identified the suspect as Anthony Michael George and said the 36-year-old turned himself in to authorities about 2 p.m. Wednesday.

George of Newport Beach was questioned by traffic investigators and has since been booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

Police also said a champagne-colored Mercedes has been impounded for further investigation.

The girl at last check was listed in critical condition at the hospital, police said.
