Person Detained In Connection With Instagram Death Threats In San Dimas

SAN DIMAS (CBSLA.com) — Deputies say they have detained a person in connection with online death threats made against a student in San Dimas.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says a person was identified and has been detained in the case.

Details have not released about the person in custody who was described only as a minor.

Several photos of the intended victim who attends Lone Hill Middle School were included along with the threats that were posted on Instagram last week, authorities said.

The account was taken down but popped up again a few days later with more dramatic threats, even a warning for the student to enjoy her time on the news.

On Monday, the school district informed parents that a person had been detained.

The school said in a letter sent: "The Sheriff's Department informed the school district today that they have arrested and have a minor in custody."

Off-camera, the girl's father told KCAL9's Brittney Hopper since the detainment, "It's been a very difficult time for the family." He said he cannot say anything further as he was told the case is still under investigation.

Deputies said the case will be submitted to the Juvenile District Attorney's Office for "charges to follow."
