Arrest Made After Anaheim Crime Spree That Included Carjacking, Ramming Police Car

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A 20-year-old Anaheim man was arrested early Thursday in connection with a crime spree that included carjacking, a stabbing and an assault with a deadly weapon on officers, Anaheim police said.

Jose Briseno was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon on police officers after he allegedly rammed a police car.

The crime spree started with a carjacking in the 1200 block of South Anaheim Boulevard just after midnight, Anaheim police spokesman Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

"The suspect walked up to the man just as he had parked his car to go to work," Wyatt said. "He pulled out a knife and demanded the keys to the car and then took in it."

The car owner was not injured.

A stabbing was then reported at 2:25 a.m. in the 100 block of Midway Manor, a nearby street, Wyatt said. Officers responded to the scene and found one man with stab wounds. He was treated at the scene, then taken to a hospital in critical condition. It's not known yet if the victim and Briseno had any kind of relationship, Wyatt said.

Shortly after the stabbing was reported, the car owner who was robbed got a call from a friend, telling him he had just seen his car near the intersection of Anaheim Boulevard and Winston Street, Wyatt said. The car owner and his friend drove to the area to try to get the car back, but the suspect jumped back in and took off again.

The car owner called Anaheim police and officers dispatched to the area spotted it in the 2200 block of Spinnaker Drive near Orangewood. The suspect initially stopped and got out of the car, then jumped back in and tried to flee, Wyatt said.

Instead, police say the suspect rammed an Anaheim police car, which disabled the stolen car, a 2015 silver Hyundai.

"The suspect was then taken into custody by officers," Wyatt said. "He has been tentatively identified as the suspect in the stabbing and the carjacking."
