Army General Killed In Afghanistan Was USC Alumni

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — USC Wednesday was mourning the loss of a U.S. Army general killed in Afghanistan.

Major General Harold Greene, 55, died Tuesday while on a military base outside of Kabul.

A gunman dressed as an Afghan solider opened fire, killing Greene and wounding several others before he was fatally shot.

Greene, a two-star general, was a USC alumni, earning both a masters degree and doctorate in science.

USC says he was one of the university's most honored graduates.

Greene, who is the highest ranking U.S. military officer killed in combat since 1970, is survived by his wife  and a daughter.
