Armed Suspect Shot, Killed By LA Deputy During Traffic Stop

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a deputy shot and killed an armed man who struggled with them during a traffic stop.

Deputy Crystal Hernandez says the man was a front-seat passenger in a car pulled over early Sunday in a commercial area of East Los Angeles.

Hernandez says the man became combative and deputies realized he was reaching for a gun. She says a deputy opened fire, striking the 29-year-old man, who died at the scene.

Two other people were detained and are being interviewed by detectives.

A .22 caliber handgun was recovered.
