Armed Suspect Injured By Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound During Whittier Barricade

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Deputies investigated Friday the circumstances surrounding what lead up to an armed barricade in Whittier last night.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent around 7:37 p.m Thursday to a residence located in the 13900 block of Dunton Drive for report of a family disturbance and man with a gun.

Once on scene, deputies said they made contact with the family and learned the husband allegedly threatened the family with a gun.

According to authorities, the resident and her son were able to safely exit the area unharmed, however, the suspect remained barricaded inside.

Special Enforcement Bureau and Crisis Negotiations Team members were called to the scene. Members attempted to negotiate for several hours, but failed to communicate with the man.

Officials entered the residence, and found the suspect with a gunshot wound to his upper body. They transported him to a hospital, where he is being treated for injuries sustained in the barricade.

No deputies were injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
