Man Accused Of Being Armed With Gun Fatally Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting In Chino

CHINO (CBSLA.com) — A man has died following an officer-involved shooting in Chino.

It happened before 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Central Avenue on Philadelphia Street.

Chino police say a woman called them about a man who stopped his car and asked her a question.

The woman did not engage in the conversation but told officers the man had a gun in his car.

When police found that man, they say he refused to cooperate and ran from the officer. The officer chased after the man and alerted other officers.

Police said the man later pointed his gun at another officer and was shot. The suspect was transported to a hospital where he later died.

He was identified by police as Bernard Wells III, 31, of San Diego.

Police said Wells was on parole with warrants for his arrest and an "extensive criminal history."

The shooting remains under investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Investigations Unit at (909) 387-3589.
