Armed Man Holed Up In South LA Apartment Surrenders After SWAT Standoff

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – An armed man who barricaded himself in a South Los Angeles apartment for more than four hours surrendered to authorities Wednesday.

The incident began at approximately 7:20 a.m. in the 700 block of West 56th Street. It came to an end just before noon when the suspect peacefully surrendered.

An LAPD spokesperson said the suspect's girlfriend may have been held hostage. CBSLA captured footage of a woman being released unharmed a little before 10 a.m.

Surrounding homes and apartment buildings were evacuated during the incident. No shots were fired. There was a heavy police presence in the area.

The exact circumstances that lead up to the barricade and the identity of the suspect were not confirmed.
