Apple Valley Man, 27, Accused Of Using His Vehicle To Run Estranged Girlfriend Off The Road

HESPERIA  (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities have announced the arrest of a 27-year-old Apple Valley man they said intentionally tried to run his estranged girlfriend off the road.

On Thursday, April 16, deputies with the Hesperia Sheriff's Station were dispatched after receiving reports that two vehicles -- an SUV and a Toyota -- were apparently racing eastbound of Rocksprings Road and that one of the vehicles flipped and rolled over several times in the area of Deep Creek.

Deputies arrived to find the SUV had fled the scene. The two occupants of the Toyota sedan suffered major injuries, but reportedly refused medical attention and were described by officials as "uncooperative" with the investigation.

Through investigation it was learned that the driver of the SUV, Stephen Odell King, was the estranged boyfriend of the female passenger in the Toyota. King allegedly spotted the two victims driving and attempted to block their path. The victims allegedly rammed the suspect's vehicle in an attempt to flee. King then pursued after them eventually ramming their car and forcing it off the road, where it then flipped several times landing in the front yard of a residence and nearly striking a witness, according to sheriffs.

The SUV King was driving was later located dumped in Apple Valley and found to have been a vehicle -- reported stolen -- out of Phelan. Damage to the driver's side door and front end matched witness accounts of the incident.

King was located at his residence in Apple Valley on Wednesday and was arrested without incident.

He was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury and corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant.,

For those charges, King's bail was set at $75,000. King was also booked on an arrest warrant for receiving stolen property and giving false ID to a peace officer. Bail on those charges was set at $50,000.
